The maritime context of Paul’s journey to Rome, as described in the Book of the Acts, is considered in the light of recent studies. The discussion includes pertinent aspects of the Mediterranean environment, Roman-period maritime activity including ships and infrastructure, the voyage and shipwreck, and the journey from Caesarea to Puteoli. The nautical terms used are commented upon and solutions are proposed for the problems identified. In the context of the maritime technology and mercantile setting of the Roman Empire, as well as the beginnings of Christianity, the narrative is deemed to be a fitting climax to the Acts of the Apostles.
